  32. I seem to be confused. I thought the ozone depletion due to
  33. chloroflurocarbons was the cause of increased levels of ultraviolet
  34. radiation making it to the surface, thus producing higher levels of skin
  35. cancer and related effects, and didn't have anything to do with global
  36. warming.
  37.  
  38. The global warming was, I thought, due to increased carbon dioxide in
  39. the atmosphere due to (among other things) increased burning of fossil
  40. fuels and the depletion of the plant life (rainforests and phytoplankton)
  41. that convert that carbon dioxide back into free oxygen and plant material.
  42.  
  43. So what do CFC gasses have to do with global warming? If the ozone also
  44. acts like carbon dioxide to trap heat in the atmosphere, the use of CFCs
  45. that destroy ozone would *reduce* global warming, not increase it.

  59. - STS-31R HST (at VPF) -
  60.       
  61. The GST-8 test ran through the weekend.  The only problem 
  62. encountered was yesterday with low humidity from the ECS unit.
  63. The humidity went below 25% and was documented.  With the 
  64. concurrence of LMSC testing continued.  Humidity never exceeded
  65. the lower limit of 15%.
  66.         
  67. - STS-32R SYNCOM (at Pad A) -
  68.        
  69. Transfer of SYNCOM into the orbiter was completed on Friday.  All
  70. cabling and configuring of SYNCOM in the orbiter was completed 
  71. over the weekend.  There were a few delays to the work going on 
  72. in the PCR due to low humidity.  This morning constraints are being  
  73. worked off to allow the beginning of the Interface Verification  
  74. Test (IVT).

  76. - STS-35 ASTRO-1/BBXRT (at O&C) -
  77.         
  78. IPS retest continues.  Completed the cruciform installation on  
  79. Saturday.  A defective seal on HUT pump was discovered Sunday.  
  80. This seal will be repaired off line this morning.  Plan to pick
  81. up with PAR extend this morning.

  83. - STS-40 SLS-1 (at O&C) -
  84.         
  85. Rack mod work continues on rack 3, 5, 12, and 7.  EPSP 
  86. installation was completed on rack 7 and panel installation is 
  87. complete on rack 12.
